High School Preparation Program at Hawthorn-Melbourne

The High School Preparation Program is a specialised program for international students who wish to study in an Australian high school. The program aims to develop students’ academic language proficiency enabling seamless entry into secondary school.

The High School Preparation Program includes:
•    development of the English macro skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing
•    the language of a range of school subjects, for example English, Mathematics, Science and Information Technology
•    development of research skills, cooperative learning and other learning strategies used in the Australian classroom 
•    social language: looking at the way young people communicate with each other
•    timetabled curriculum related excursions with classmates and teachers
•    the study of Australian society

The classroom environment of the High School Preparation Program mirrors that of the Australian secondary school system to the largest extent possible.  Students are encouraged to discuss their ideas, to work co-operatively and to develop their individual research and study skills.

Extra care for our underage students

Our students can expect a high degree of individual support and care as they undertake the first stage of their overseas education. While in our program, students have access to:
•    airport reception service
•    a dedicated co-ordinator specifically for underage students is available to monitor the progress and welfare of students in this program 
•    regular sporting activities ensure students stay fit and active while making friends during their time at Hawthorn-Melbourne
•    careful and considered homestay placement. Host families undergo police checks, home visits and regular monitoring by the Hawthorn-Melbourne accommodation staff. 
•    a 24 hour hours emergency number – 1800 NAVITAS
